I speak about the necessity of voting and being engaged in the political process, and of the danger to women's right to abortion and the rights of workers.
Hello, hello, hello, John Mason. How is everybody? I hope all is well. I hope you've all voted. All elections are important. That's a cliche, I know, but it's a cliche because it's all too true. Elections do have consequences, as we've seen. With the election of 2016 and the resultant results. I myself have served on my election board in my division in South Philadelphia. It was a long day, but I'm glad I did it. It was important work that I have done. And I urge all others to give it a try. Work with your others of your friends and neighbors to uh to uh help other people uh work the voting machines and elect people. And maybe you you yourself should run run for an office. Why not? It's our government, and we have to take it back from the corporate shills and uh hate hate mongers because serious stuff going on. School boards and state legislatures are are ganging up on LGBT kids, like laws preventing trans girls from taking part in girl sports, just totally demonizing this small sliver of the population that's very vulnerable. I mean they're kids, they don't know what kind of person they are or how they'll grow up to be, and the fact that that they're in a sexual minority that is not universally pop popular, I mean that makes it even more difficult. So I they have all these bills uh pending, some they even enact it, like in Oklahoma and Texas, stopping women from having an abortion in anticipation of the of the upcoming Supreme Court decision that the Scalia drew up that would uh uh cancel Roe v. Wade. All the uh Trump appointees of the Supreme Court, Gorsuch and Comey and Kavanaugh, all swore that that Roe v. Wade was a uh but settled law, which means it's not gonna change. But apparently it it is not. They're actually planning to repeal it. And why stop there? There's other uh decisions that that the right wing hates that are that are in this that are in the targets, such as the decision to allow states to marry same-sex couples, decisions uh supporting the right to vote, such as and and also Brown versus Board of Education. That's that's next on the target on the hit list. Don't think they're gonna don't think they're gonna stop. All rights are vulnerable. And I'm just sick and tired of all the complaining that the Republicans are gonna take over the House and Senate. Excuse me, but we haven't had the election yet. We have to first, it's five months to the general election, early in November. So we have a lot of work to do in between time. Educating ourselves, organizing ourselves, communicating amongst ourselves, getting our candidates out, and letting people know the dangers of what might happen if they if the Republicans take back uh the House and the Senate. It's not settled yet. So let's not uh be the fetus. Let's not give up too early, before we've even started. Alright? Let's get out there, bust our asses for our freedom. That's what's at stake here, our freedoms, our liberties. I am not being melodramatic. I'm telling you the truth. Right? Along with the Supreme Court and the state legislatures, there's other right-wing elements in the Republican Party and in the militias and outside the party. There gangs are hired gangs of thugs like the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers. They're about to terrorize us. That's their plan. We gotta stand up to these bastards. We gotta show show 'em we we can't be kicked around. And we won't be. So let's make a stand. Let's get out there and vote. In November. Vote like we mean it. Okay. That's about it for now. And let's not and let me now talk up the wonderful uh movement of organizing uh what we've been calling those we've been calling essential workers, the workers at the Starbucks, the workers at the at the departments, at the grocery stores, who all through the pandemic have been doing their work so that we can live our lives. Make sure campaign for them to have a $15 an hour minimum wage. That's a minimum at the bottom. It's not the top minimum wage. And help them organize, like the workers at Starbucks and the workers at Amazon. These corporations have been raking in huge, huge, huge profits during the pandemic. And inflation is there's and there's no excuse for the inflation. They can live quite comfortably up to buildings they already have. They don't have to soak workers or consumers. Like how many yachts can they purchase? How many times can Jeff Bezos get up in space in a spaceship? Let us debunk for forever and ever, amen. The idea of trickle down economics. Give all kind of tax breaks and favor financial favors to corporations and they'll work their magic to make everybody everybody prosperous. It hasn't worked out like that. It's that wasn't the intention. It's bullshit. Please no longer fall for it. That's another reason to get out and vote. So we can have elected officials answerable to us, the people, as opposed to them, the corporations, the billionaire class, our own oligarchs as bad as the crowd around Putin. So in November. Defy the pundits, defy the naysayers, defy the professional pessimists. Get out there and vote, and we'll beat these guys. Okay? Okay, that is it. See you next week over the podcast. Bye.
