Hello, hello, hello, John Mason. How is everybody? Hope you're all well. This morning I stopped up stopped off at a nearest at my nearby branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia and picked up a couple of books. I am a total bibliophile. I got books all over my house. And I'm a writer and a reader. They go together like peanut butter and jelly, locks and bagels. And we have to pres as much as well as we have to upgrade our public school system, and it needs upgrading and protection. We need to protect and upgrade our public library system. And both are subject to harassment by uh Yahoo's on the right wing, like homophobes who screet who scream, and fascists who scream about drag queen story times for kids in public libraries, and uh maniacs raving about uh mask mandates in public schools, so kids don't spread the uh the coronavirus around each other and those closed quarters, and and complaints about uh intelligent discussion about race and uh LGBTQ issues. The whole concept of education is under attack and and the right wing uses the excuse of oh, the parents have to be consulted about this, but the parents don't own the kids. I mean Okay, let me back up here. The kids have to be free to grow up, have to be prepared by their parents for the outside world of adulthood to be thinking, rational uh adults and citizens of their country. And education is how you do it, and kids must be free to explore uh explore the world and develop their minds. And sometimes, I know from personal experience, the parents are part of the problem trying to prevent uh kids from learning, trying to limit their options and they have kids have to know what the options are and any dangers that there are in the world. And be protected from them, sure, but to know that the dangers are there, but to to know the opportunities out there to know the to to think for themselves about what the world is really like education begin may begin at these in the school room classroom, but it shouldn't end there. Education is a lifelong uh process, a lifelong task, which I've uh dedicated myself to and and I encourage others to continue that. I urge everyone to support your local libraries, support your public schools and and engage in all whatever educational opportunities there are, credit or non-credit. And support your local neighborhood uh bookstores. I mean in those neighborhood bookstores they got um they got uh uh books uh you don't s see in that the big chain bookstores uh have new books, old books, used books, fresh off the press's books, and also other events such as um writing class writing classes and meet the k me and and meet the author events and celebrations of books and also you have to remember banned books week. I mean, how could these big bad strong tough guy fascists be scared of these things of paper and ink? It's because they're afraid of what's in them. They're afraid of the ideas they contain that challenge their power that show them as the lying, ignorant thugs they are. That's what scares the hell out of them. So the saying is going any book worth banning is a book book worth reading from Isaac Asimov. And let us support our libraries, our public schools, our local uh bookstores, and our local authors and poets. To and uh full disclosure, I myself am a Philadelphia-based author and poet, and I'm always trying to market my own novel, which is available on Amazon, uh Soldier of the Cross. A rather controversial deals with a very sensitive subject of religious fanaticism as destructive results. Anyway. Okay, that's my rant for the day. And now advertisements. Take away uh uh the rights of LGPTQ people, the right take away their right to just live their lives. And to un and who would un and these same forces would undo the rights of people of color and women. And more parti and particularly they would take away a woman's right to the to decide her own body and what can do her reproductive rights. Please. November 8th. Get out there and vote.
